Oakdale, California Dec 6, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - A mother and son duo have released a book of poetry showcasing the common themes of adolescence and connecting two generations. Looking through the mirror, both then and now, we see the reflection of heartbreaks, of first loves, and of excitement in discovering the world.
Both Amanda McFadden and Trent McFadden have found this to be a bonding experience. They realized that no matter how much the world has changed, there are some constants in the hearts and minds of teens.
Trent stated, “This is the culmination of two different teens in two different eras navigating adolescence. Poetry was a medium to process our emotions and the world around us.”
“The idea to do this really came from the kids stumbling across my old poetry,” explained Amanda. “They really liked it and Trent revealed that he had been writing some as well. Instantly, this sparked a conversation on meters and some challenges in finding just the right words for each stanza.”
These discussions continued over the next few months as the two decided they should publish a joint book of poetry. But the real push to get the book out came from Amanda being diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera, a rare blood cancer.
“The diagnosis put things in perspective for me. I didn’t want this to be an empty promise to my son. It was important for me to prioritize putting this together and I am very proud of the results. Trent is a wonderfully talented writer,” shared Amanda.
However, the journey to publish their poetry was not without its challenges. “We decided to self-publish, but then we ran into an issue with the ebook being broadcasted incorrectly initially. That delayed the release date by about 2 weeks,” Amanda stated.
Despite the setback, both the hardcover and the ebook are now available at online book retailers nationwide or the hardcover can be purchased directly here.
