In 2003, he started his fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and then he completed his fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology with Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Furthermore, Dr. Mortada is tri-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. The fellowship is one of the most distinguished designations and is the ultimate recognition of professional achievement. Dr. Mortada’s passion for teaching and research was evident at the start of his training. Within a year of joining the faculty, he became Associate Director of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology fellowship. Since 2014, he has been the Director of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology fellowship. Due to his achievements, he received, in 2018, the title of Clinical Adjunct Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular Disease Section) from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Milwaukee campus.

Dr. Mortada has received numerous awards, among them the Physician's Recognition Award given by the American Medical Society, and the Rieselbach Scientific Day Distinguished Paper Award at Aurora Health Care's Scientific Day.

Clinical cardiac electrophysiology is a branch of the medical specialty of cardiology. It deals with the study and treatment of rhythm disorders of the heart. Cardiologists with expertise in this area are usually referred to as electrophysiologists. An electrophysiologist works closely with other cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to assist or guide therapy for heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmias). They are trained to perform interventional and surgical procedures to treat cardiac arrhythmia.
