Saint Paul, Minnesota Jun 29, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Minnesota startup, HouseNovel, announces the nationwide launch of their community platform HouseNovel.com. The largest real estate preservation project in the country, HouseNovel combines home photos, historic register information, news articles, and personal stories on a timeline to easily discover and share home history.
“Looking at homes online has become a big part of people’s everyday lives, whether they are in the market or not, but you never get the whole story about a house that way,” said HouseNovel co-founder David Decker. “Using our nationwide community platform, you can really understand a home’s story, share that story, and preserve the moments that make a house a home.”
With more than 15,000 records HouseNovel has relied on real estate agents, architects, planners, and historians to contribute to the initial stages of the platform. With the nationwide launch, HouseNovel aims to encourage anyone who is passionate about preserving home history to contribute.
“I often field calls from homeowners looking to find historical information on their properties,” said Molly McIntosh, Executive Director of the Edina Historical Society. “Having a platform like this is fantastic for being able to find the lived experience of the property.”
The idea for HouseNovel came about after Decker’s parents lost their home to foreclosure in 2011. It was subsequently torn down, devastating the Decker Family.
“My parents had worked tirelessly fixing up this little 1900’s farmhouse in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota,” said Decker. “They had collected so many great photos and mementos that were never shared outside our family and we realized the new homeowners had no idea what was once there. If we had shared this history, we feel we could have saved that home.”
With the national launch, users can now search for any house in the United States and add to that home’s history. Homes can be shared via the platform with family and friends and users can also “favorite” homes to receive updates anytime new history is added.
“There are so many amazing old photos in people’s homes collecting dust and untold stories in people’s memories that we want to capture through this fun, interactive platform,” said Amanda Zielike, co-founder HouseNovel. “With HouseNovel everyone can truly leave their mark on history and support home preservation across the country.”
