San Jose, California Oct 23, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - A year ago, none of us could have imagined that a calamity would strike the world that would force us all to confine ourselves to our houses. As Covid-19 ran rampant through nations, every last shred of normalcy evaporated from our lives, and we stood shook and petrified by how drastically and quickly our lives had changed. But while most companies scrambled to adapt to the new Work-From-Home corporate environment of the Corona-age, we at Matellio, were ready to meet this challenge head-on. And we kept providing our customers with the same quality services that we are now known for in the market as we moved from our offices to our houses.
But there is only so much top-of-the-line development gear and agile-fueled development process can do. In the end, an IT company is just as much about its engineers and as it is about its services. The Work-From-Home environment has been a more significant challenge for those who have spent their entire careers collaborating with their colleagues in offices. This massive shift from being surrounded by our co-workers to being cooped up in our rooms has left us all feeling distant and lonely. Matellio prides itself in providing world-class services, but at the same time, we pride ourselves on being a company that cares about the well being of its employees more than anything else.
“When we are working from the office, we do a lot of things to connect,” said Mr Puneet Rao, Matellio’s Chief Operating Officer, “and it is very difficult during this pandemic time to make that connection.” He further added.
Keeping our current predicament in mind, to lift the spirits of our employees, we have been continually coming up with ways to give our engineers opportunities to collaborate with their coworkers virtually on various events. And one such event, and the one we are most proud of, is Hackathon or as we are calling it this year: Smart-a-Thon.
“One of the biggest challenges for our engineers while working from home is that their lives can now feel very monotonous to them. And the biggest challenge for us, as management, is to keep them all focused and excited about our shared vision in this unprecedented era. The true challenge is not to let the morale of our engineers dip. And we believe that Hackathon is a way in which we can not only break this monotonous cycle and give our engineers a much-needed change of pace by throwing complex and fun problems their way, but also allow them to learn something new.”
Slated for October 31, 2020, this year’s Hackathon will be completely virtual, to make sure that we put the safety of our engineers first. And keeping the tradition of our past Hackathons alive, we will again be challenging our engineers with tasks set around one of the latest technologies in the market, one that will have an irreversible impact on our society- the Internet of Things or IoT.
“We firmly believe that IoT is the next big thing. In a couple of years, IoT will be a part of our normal, day-to-day lives.” said Mr Rao, “And this year’s Hackathon will not only be a way for our engineers to get at least a part of their pre-corona lives back but also learn and familiarize themselves with this new technology.”
