Njombe, Iringa Apr 9, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Lugarawa Youth Foundation today announced the launch and ongoing impact of its holistic Children & Youth Sports and Skills Development Programs, designed to empower young people across rural communities with opportunities in sports, leadership, life skills, and agriculture.
The Foundation’s mission is to create positive transformation by providing platforms where children and young people can grow physically, mentally, and socially through community-centered activities that foster confidence, teamwork, resilience, and economic opportunity.
The programs include:
Youth Sports Engagement:
Lugarawa Youth Foundation organizes regular football, netball and athletics training and matches for children and youth. These activities improve physical health, teamwork, positive habits, and community cohesion while encouraging youths to stay in school and avoid harmful behaviors.
Skills Development & Leadership Training:
Beyond sports, participating youth take part in workshops focused on leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork—skills that support personal growth and future employment.
Agriculture & Entrepreneurship Training:
Complementing sports and leadership activities, the Foundation operates a Youth Demonstration Vegetable Garden and integrated farming sites (with mixed crops and fish ponds), where young people receive practical agribusiness training and learn sustainable farming methods that can turn into income-generating opportunities.
Support for Vulnerable Children:
In partnership with local communities, the Foundation has provided school uniforms and educational resources to vulnerable children at five primary schools, helping increase school attendance and reduce barriers to education.
“We believe that every child and youth has incredible potential,” said the Director of Lugarawa Youth Foundation. “By combining sports, life skills training, agricultural education, and community support, we are helping young people develop confidence, purpose, and real opportunities for their future.”
Location & Community Context:
Lugarawa Youth Foundation’s activities take place in Peramiho and surrounding communities in the Ruvuma Region, a rural area where support for youth development, education, and economic opportunity has historically been limited. The Foundation works closely with schools, families, and local leaders to ensure that programs are accessible and impactful.
