London, United Kingdom Jan 29, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - An initiative has been launched that will showcase the incredible imagination of children and young people with special needs, and give them a voice to share their gifts with a wider audience. The project is partly to celebrate fifty years of The 1970 Education Act, which stated that children born with special needs must be deemed as suitable for Education in a school setting. Prior to the 1970 Education Act, most children born with disabilities were usually hidden away by families, confined to the hospital, or continuously moved from one institution to another.
The main focus of the project, however, is to recognize and showcase the strength, resilience, determination, and hidden or unknown talents of children and young people with special needs. Children and young people with special needs have been invited to write and submit an original fictional story to be considered for publication in a storybook due to be published later this year. Parents, carers, and teachers can support them in writing and recording their thoughts and ideas, using the children’s and young people’s preferred method of communication.
The story may be submitted in written format, symbolized format, picture format, or a combination of the formats. The project is already gaining approval. Some parents and special needs teachers are already calling it “a fantastic idea”; “a great initiative”; and “a refreshing platform for children with special needs to have a voice…”
In this current climate, this project will be a great lockdown learning challenge and an exciting opportunity, for the children and young people to have something to focus on and put down as an amazing achievement when they submit their story.
