Chester, Pennsylvania Feb 21, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Literacy Access Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity, announces a grant award of $2,980 to the Reading Public Library in Reading, Pennsylvania. Literacy Access Fund secures funding from corporate, foundations, and individual partners in order to provide financial support to underfunded public libraries through a competitive granting process. The goal of the organization is to help libraries provide equal access to quality resources for young learners, regardless of economic factors.
This award was made possible through a grant from the Univest Bank & Trust Company. The grant will help fund the acquisition of state-of-the-art technology for young children.
Ms. Bronwen Gamble, the Reading Public Library Director, stated that “The digital divide is as serious as the literacy divide in Reading. The acquisition of AWE early learning digital technology will go a long way to help reduce that divide.” She also expressed her gratitude to the Literacy Access Fund for the grant award.
Deborah B. Sorgi, Ed.D., Chair, Director & President of Literacy Access Fund, shared her thoughts. “Literacy Access Fund is pleased to support the Reading Public Library. The addition of an AWE Learning early literacy,
bi-lingual tablet in a city where students come from 34 countries and speak 40 languages will provide invaluable support for their literacy development.” Dr. Sorgi also noted, “We are gratified to be part of the development of public libraries as strong community hubs to support formal education.”
