LGBTI Uganda is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, legal aid, healthcare, and empowerment programs for Uganda’s LGBTI+ community.

Kamuli, Eastern Oct 4, 2025 (Issuewire.com)  - In the face of continued persecution and legal repression, LGBTI Uganda reaffirms its commitment to providing sanctuary, advocacy, and empowerment to Uganda’s LGBTI+ individuals. Since its founding on March 17, 2006 by Elvis Kiwanuka and others, LGBTI Uganda has remained resilient, offering essential services to those most at risk in a hostile environment.

A Lifeline Amid Crisis

Uganda’s current climate is one of heightened danger for LGBTI+ individuals. The 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Act imposes severe criminal and civil penalties, further endangering lives and livelihoods. Amid growing violence, forced displacement, and social exclusion, LGBTI Uganda continues to operate as a beacon of safety and solidarity.

Our core services include:

  • Emergency shelter for LGBTI+ persons fleeing violence or homelessness lgbti Uganda.
  • Health, mental health, and HIV-related care through trauma-informed and affirming services lgbti Uganda.
  • Legal aid & advocacy to challenge discrimination, defend rights, and support those arrested or threatened lgbti Uganda.
  • Education, training, and livelihood development programs to support long-term independence and dignity lgbti Uganda.
  • Over the years, LGBTI Uganda has supported hundreds of individuals with necessities—food, medical care, clothing, shelter—and sustained empowerment through education and skills training.

  • SafeSpaces & Peer Circles:
  • Trans Peer Safety Circle (weekly)
  • Queer Youth SafeSpace every Friday
  • Hidden Words Book Circle on the second Tuesday of each month
  • Virtual Global Pride Gathering:
    An online, anonymous event to unite Ugandan LGBTI+ individuals and allies globally—celebrating resistance, joy, and solidarity.
  • “Art as Resistance” Exhibition (June 15–30):
    A showcase of queer art, expression, and storytelling to amplify marginalized voices.
  • Awareness & Advocacy Campaigns:
  • Documenting human rights abuses
  • Engaging international human rights bodies
  • Press outreach to raise awareness of Uganda’s LGBTI+ crisis

For nearly two decades, we have persisted despite threats and hostility—providing legal services, health and mental health support, shelter, educational programs, and community empowerment. Our vision is to empower marginalized Ugandan LGBTI+ people; our mission is to receive and rehabilitate those impacted by social or domestic abuse through health services, training, education, employment, entrepreneurship, and talent development.
