New York City, New York Apr 22, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - The popular all-ages environmental short documentary, Birds? What Are They Good For?, is now available for free on YouTube through the channel https://youtube.com/@Streamacy which brings a focus to high-quality video in the digital space.
Featuring striking footage of unusual birds and informative, historical bird facts from and a variety of cultures, Birds? What Are They Good For? distills the complex subject of environmentalism into an upbeat, family-friendly exploration of our avian friends.
The upbeat 12-minute nature documentary is narrated by Los Angeles-based actor Joe Barlam, known for his appearances on Investigation Discovery as well as in feature films Bloodrunners and Camp Pleasant Lake. “It’s educational, and it was great to do. It felt like a good contribution for the world,” said Joe. “Birds were here before us, and they’ll be here after.”
The documentary wryly explores the impact that birds have had on human society and investigates the large-scale ramifications of society’s development on the animals’ habitats in a quick and entertaining fashion. “The growing climate crisis dictates that we investigate unusual means of trying to preserve our environment,” said director David Lane Diperstein, “Which means teaching children that birds have a greater effect on the world around them than they’re generally taught to believe.”
Writer Charline Tetiyevsky continued, “Kids are smart, and they deserve access to content that doesn’t talk down to them. Environmentalism is going to become an increasingly urgent issue throughout their lifetimes.”
This year has already brought with it prestigious screenings with the Science Film Festival and CMS Children’s International Film Festival, with a reach of nearly a quarter million students. 2024 saw the UK TV broadcast premiere of the short when it broadcast on NVTV Belfast, Latest TV Brighton, KMTV Kent, and Sheffield Live! Sheffield in association with Virgin Media and the Inheritance Festival. Birds? What Are They Good For? has also screened in Ukraine, Slovakia, India, Costa Rica, and Portugal.
Birds? What Are They Good For? is available in closed captioned English and Spanish subtitles. It can be streamed for free on YouTube at this link:
