Kyoto, Japan Apr 23, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - As Japan welcomes an increasing number of international tourists, a new service is making it easier for travelers to find clean and accessible public toilets across popular destinations.
TOIMAP, a free web-based toilet search platform developed by Kyoto-based startup KICKs Inc., is now available in Kyoto, Osaka, and Kanazawa. The service allows users to easily locate public restrooms based on their current location or preferred area.
Unlike other map services, TOIMAP provides:
-
Visual confidence with toilet photos (inside & outside)
-
Smart filters for wheelchair access, baby changing tables, ostomate compatibility, and more
-
Multilingual support, Japanese and English as of today
-
Crowdsourced reviews and ratings
-
No downloads or login required
Designed with travelers in mind, TOIMAP aims to enhance the tourism experience while also supporting sustainable infrastructure use by encouraging responsible toilet behavior.
“Public toilets are part of Japan’s invisible hospitality,” says Kento Yamamoto, CEO of KICKs Inc “TOIMAP makes them easier to find and use, helping both visitors and local governments.”
The platform was originally developed as a research project at Kyoto University to tackle the growing issue of public toilet closures due to misuse and maintenance costs.
