This year Halloween is looking more and more like HELL-oween.
Just in the nick of time, a startling new fantasy vision has been launched: HellDemons. It suggests that there is a very bad reason why the world is in the state it is in. Eight demons have deserted their posts in hell and are hiding amongst us in human form, manipulating the course of humankind. Their aim is to secretly and silently enslave the human race… and… unknown to us, they are succeeding.
Right now, doesn’t this sound less like a fantasy and more like an explanation?
Unlike past fantasy visions – such as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter – HellDemons does not have a Western mythological background but an Eastern one. It has been inspired by the most pervasive myth in South-East Asia – The Ramayana. This sprawling epic climaxes in a war between demons and humans - a war which humans (barely) won.
So whatever became of the demons from the Ramayana? The answer of the author, Ren Lexander, is that they have been serving in the Buddhist version of hell (Naraka). When souls get too heavy with bad karma, they sink to Naraka (hell) and have agonies inflicted on them by demons so they can purge their bad karma and resume normal human incarnations.
But, of course, eight of them have deserted their posts in hell… and they are secretly tightening their grip on us.
This Halloween, there could be a turning point… maybe… A strange man walks into the Ciao Bella Café in Los Angeles. He is served by a black waitress-wannabe-actress named Brandi…
