Inside Telecom Analysis Examines How Generative AI Is Reshaping Critical Thinking

Beirut, Lebanon Sep 13, 2026 (Issuewire.com)  - Inside Telecom has published a new analysis examining an increasingly important question surrounding generative artificial intelligence: as AI becomes better at producing polished and convincing answers, are people becoming better thinkers, or simply more dependent on the technology?

Published under the title “How AI Makes Good Answers Look Like Good Thinking,” the analysis by Khaled Itani, Design and Growth Consultant, explores how generative AI is changing the way professionals approach writing, research, strategy, design and education.

Rather than arguing against AI adoption, the article focuses on the importance of maintaining human judgment as AI systems become increasingly capable of handling complex intellectual tasks.

The analysis references research from Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University involving 319 knowledge workers. The study found that greater confidence in generative AI was associated with lower reported critical-thinking effort, while greater confidence in a person’s own abilities was associated with more critical thinking.

“AI is becoming exceptionally good at producing work that looks complete, even when the thinking behind it is not,” Itani writes.

The article argues that the key question is no longer simply whether professionals should use AI, but whether they are using it to strengthen their thinking or allowing it to replace parts of the thinking process altogether.

The issue is particularly relevant in fields such as strategy, marketing and design, where AI can accelerate research and execution but cannot automatically provide the experience, context and judgment required to determine whether an answer is actually right.

Education presents a similar challenge as younger generations begin using generative AI earlier in the learning process. The analysis raises questions about how schools and universities can benefit from AI without weakening the development of independent reasoning and problem-solving skills.

The article ultimately argues for stronger AI adoption alongside stronger human judgment, rather than treating the two as competing forces.
