Leeds, West Yorkshire Oct 11, 2025 (Issuewire.com) - IDIA, a compelling short film by writer-director Winifred Iguwa, will screen in the United Kingdom as part of Black History Month on October 21, 2025, ahead of its world premiere at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2025 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Shot entirely in York, IDIA follows a young aspiring dancer who reconnects with her Benin heritage to regain her confidence and find her voice. Inspired by the legacy of Queen Idia of the Benin Kingdom (Nigeria), the film blends modern and traditional dance with Benin-inspired music and striking visual storytelling.
“IDIA was born from a desire to show how our cultural roots can empower and transform us, ” says director Winifred Iguwa.
The UK screening offers audiences a first glimpse of the film, while its AFRIFF premiere marks the beginning of its international festival journey.
