New York City, New York Feb 3, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Art Apple NYC has announced today line-up for the New York City Hip Hop | The Photo Tribute Exhibition which will be on view from February 21st through February 23rd, 2019 (post Opening Night on February 20th, 2020). The show will be presented by Art Apple NYC and the main sponsors include B&H Photo and Duggal. Co-curated by Moises De Pena and Madeleine Budd, the photo-based exhibition will explore the origins of hip hop in New York City and help to tell the story of how the music genre has evolved from a place of marginality to an important influence on mainstream culture.

“Hip Hop’s disruptive nature and it's the message has often been trivialized, but this exhibition will reveal its influence on both fine art and popular culture,” said Moises De Pena, co-curator and founder of Art Apple NYC. “By tracing its evolution and highlighting its defining elements, the show will embody profound moments of this music style."

The celebration of the opening, New York City Hip Hop | The Photo Tribute will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2020. During the event the Borough President of Brooklyn's Office of the HON. Eric Adams will be honoring photographers Jonathan Mannion, Danny Clinch, Mel D. Cole, D-Nice, Ricky Powell, Shareif Ziyadat, Johnny Nunez and Steve Sweatpants with certificates for their contribution to the arts, culture and New York City.

“Every New Yorker speaks the language of Hip Hop,” said Madeleine Budd co-curator and marketing lead at B&H. “Effectively illustrating some of the stories through the imagery in this exhibition will advance the critical dialogue about the ongoing and ever-evolving impact of hip-hop and photography in this city.”
