Carson City, Nevada Jan 24, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Honor Flight Nevada Founder Jon Yuspa to Receive National VFW Distinguished Citizenship Award
Honor Flight Nevada is proud to announce that its Founder and President, Jon Yuspa, has been selected to receive the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) National Distinguished Citizenship Award, one of the highest civilian honors bestowed by the VFW.
This national recognition celebrates Yuspa’s extraordinary dedication to honoring America’s veterans through his leadership of Honor Flight Nevada—an organization that has flown over 3,500 veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Gold Star families and Holocaust Survivors and beyond to be honored and visit their memorials in Washington, D.C.
In a letter of commendation, VFW Commander-in-Chief Alfred J. Lipphardt praised Yuspa for his “devotion to honoring veterans and fostering camaraderie” and for creating “lasting bonds between veterans and their families.” The award will be presented during the 126th VFW National Convention on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.
“This award belongs to every veteran, every volunteer, every donor, and every supporter who has stood beside our mission,” said Yuspa. “It’s a reflection of the power of community, patriotism, and the lasting debt of gratitude we owe to those who have served.”
Yuspa joins a distinguished list of past honorees, including:
- Chef Robert Irvine, celebrity chef and founder of the Robert Irvine Foundation
- Jared Allen, NFL All-Pro and founder of Homes for Wounded Warriors
“Jon Yuspa exemplifies what it means to be a servant leader,” said Alfred J. Lipphardt, National Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. “His commitment to honoring veterans and Gold Star families has created ripples effects with powerful, life-changing moments for thousands.”
In addition to this national honor, Yuspa’s work has earned him several accolades, including:
- RGJ Citizen of the Year (Reno Gazette Journal)
