Hemp Council Launches ‘New Beginning’ for Industrial Hemp

North American Industrial Hemp Council (NAIHC) Celebrates Success

Grand Forks, North Dakota Mar 8, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - From: The North American Industrial Hemp Council (NAIHC)

In the Fall of 1995, a small group of industry, environmental and agricultural leaders met at the Thilmany Paper Mill in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and formed the North American Industrial Hemp Council (NAIHC).

After 23 years of grass-roots education of consumers and legislators, “Industrial Hemp is finally able to launch a New Beginning,” according to David Monson, NAIHC President and a North Dakota farmer and legislator.

The goal of NAIHC has been to encourage the Industrial Hemp industry to start again. Hemp had been illegally placed on the Schedule One Drug list of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

“Since the new Farm Bill will allow hemp farming (as most state legislatures have already done), the NAIHC has accomplished its goal. NAIHC is closing shop and donating its remaining resources and talent to Dr Shelby Thames at the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg for market-oriented research,” Monson explained.

“Industrial hemp has great value for building material fabrication, construction, autos, trucks, aeroplanes, paper, packaging and, of course, for agriculture and the environment. We have created a new and aggressive hemp research effort within our research centre,” said Dr Thames. “Farmers and consumers alike will benefit from these programs for years to come.”
