Nearly 100 years since the death of magician Harry Houdini, most people still consider him the greatest magician and escape artist of all time. Just as people believe there will never be a rock band greater than The Beatles, most also feel there will never be anyone greater than Houdini.
Producer Jerry Stiller believes that there are those who will try to beat Houdini at his own craft and become better than Houdini.
Stiller has put together a team that includes the world’s greatest expert on Houdini, magic, and escapology, Mr. Herbert Becker. Becker, you might recall, went against the magic grain by exposing how magicians do their tricks by pulling back the curtain and revealing all the secrets of magicians.
The new program will invite contestants to escape from the various restraints which made Houdini famous. Contestants are chosen from all occupations including daredevils, acrobats, magicians, and everyday people who will be challenged to escape from straightjackets, chains, handcuffs, prisons, and Houdini’s most famous escape, the Chinese Water Torture Cell.
The setting for the television program is an abandoned prison that once housed murderers on death row.
Each week contestants will pit their skills against the greatest restraints known to man and those who succeed will move on the next week with the death-defying restraints getting more difficult each week.
According to Stiller, a network has not been chosen yet although networks such as NBC, Netflix, and Showtime are just some of the broadcasters who would be right for this show.
