Halloween Hoot Hits All The Right Notes

The new spooky single Ghost Rap, by aging artist Rory Ridley-Duff, has struck a chord with playlist curators and internet radio DJs.

Sheffield, South Yorkshire Oct 26, 2024 (Issuewire.com)  - Ghost Rap is the new single by 62-year old retired university professor Rory Ridley-Duff. After its release on 1st October, Rory has been receiving feedback and getting commitments from playlist curators and radio DJs to share his music.

Dogukan Ozgturk, a playlist curator from Turkey, loved "the tasty mood and vocal performances" while PROGland, a media outlet in Brazil, described the new offering as "a cornucopia of unusualness." There was praise also from Mexican media outlet Cronica Metal who found the vocal so "interesting and creepy" they will share the track with their listeners.

There was strong support from UpdateCharts, a 300,000 strong Brazilian music community, whose spokesperson wrote:

"This production is extremely professional and surprising. There are few artists that impress us at first. The music is wonderful and deserves a lot of recognition [...] we will post news on our website to help reach more people"

Songwriter Rory Ridley-Duff said "It has been a devilishly long road - this comical idea of a dancing rapping skeleton has been rattling around for decades. It is satisfying to bring it to fruition and receive positive support."

His funky rap tells the story of Sidney the Skeleton and his struggle to hold himself together when the rhythm of a piece of music overwhelms him. Sidney raps:

I felt and hollow breeze go whistling through my knees
So I quickly turned around and saw my leg crash to the ground
My fingers smashed some windows and my toes went up my nose
As I danced and I danced and I dance to the beat

The light-hearted tone of Rory's first single also struck a chord in his home country (UK). Newfangled Radio, based in Newcastle, found Ghost Rap "enjoyable" and "well produced" and looks forward to playing it.

This is not Rory's first foray into music composition/production - he has a long history of music-making with the progressive rock band Protos that dates back to the 1970s. Protos recently released its fourth (and final) album, The Infinite Horizon, on which Rory worked with guitarist Stephen Anscombe and drummer Alex Warwick. Sadly, Stephen Anscombe died in August so Rory plans to carry on as a solo artist. Ghost Rap is the second track planned for a new album provisionally titled 'Come Dance with Me'. Watch out for more news in the second half of 2025.
