Greensboro, North Carolina Feb 24, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - The Guilford County Bar Association, during a Special Joint Meeting of the 24th Judicial District Bar and 24H Judicial District Bar, nominated Kelvin Smith as their top recommendation to be appointed to the District Court bench by Governor Roy Cooper.

The association came together last Wednesday to take a vote on which one of their peers would be their recommendation to the governor to replace a seat vacated by the resignation of Judge Mark Cummings. Smith received the highest number of votes out of 4 attorneys that were under consideration.

"It is an amazing feeling to receive this vote of confidence from my peers", said Smith. "I believe that they see me every day in the halls of the district court and they have seen my commitment to serving the people of Guilford County. I am very humbled to have received this recommendation from such an esteemed group of attorneys."

Smith earned the nomination over Gavin Reardon who is his only opponent in the upcoming primary election for the seat. The names of candidates will be sent to Governor Roy Cooper who will decide the appointment.
