My name is Antonio Hernandez. My artist's name is Nu Tone. I’m from Stockton California. Stockton is known for having a high crime and homicide rate. I grew up there on the East Side and was previously known as “Filthy Tone” in my community as a rapper. My name changed when I encountered Jesus in a dream. Shortly after that, I moved to Manteca California where I currently live.
What makes you different as a person and as an artist?
I want to make a difference in my community and in the world. As an artist, it’s bigger than music for me. The goal is to reach those who are lost and encourage the faith of others. I want to build a legacy before I leave this world.
What do you want to accomplish in life?
I want to fulfill the calling God has for my life. We all have a purpose and mission on this earth. He has blessed me with a gift to reach people through my music. I want to make sure I do it in excellence, unto the Lord. A lot of people listen to music and they are influenced by it. The problem is that most are influenced in negative ways. I want to make sure I’m a light in the dark, and a positive remodel to the kids that look up to me. I know God has a plan and a purpose for my future. Life is short on this earth and I don’t want to waste it. With every year that goes by I want to make sure that I’m growing the gifts that God has blessed me with. Most importantly, I want to make a difference and I want to bring glory and honor to God in everything I do.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself investing in and mentoring other young artists that love God. As an independent label owner, I want to invest in the next generation with resources that will help them succeed in their music and life. I feel like there isn’t enough artist development in my genera of music. It’s not just about the talent or the gift of rapping, it’s also about shaping the next generation with the way they live their lives. There are so many talented artists in our world, but most of them need guidance to further their gifts. God has blessed me with a gift to be a mentor and a person of influence, and I take that responsibility wholeheartedly.
What do you bring to the world of music?
I’ve been through a lot in life and I know my music and testimony could help others. I want to bring healing and deliverance to people all around the world. I bring freshness and diversity that plays out through my music production. I intentionally leverage different genera’s and styles with the thought in mind that I want to reach all different types of people. I know we live in a broken world and music is a powerful tool that can bring healing.
What legacy do you want to leave behind?
I want to be remembered as a man who loved God with all his heart; a man that walked out what he talked about. I wanna’ make an impact for my children financially and spiritually with my music. And ultimately do everything God has planned for me to accomplish here. I want to make sure I make a difference in my community and be the “church” outside the church walls. I feel like kids grow into gangs in the hood, because they have no positive role models to look up to. The role models they do have are drug dealers, gangsters, and people in the hood. God has called me to be a father to the fatherless and I feel like the hood needs father figures. Most kids that grow up in the hood have no dad around. I want to make sure I go into those places and share God's love.
