Getting Back: A River Wild Film

A story about growth, acceptance & a family finding their way back to the most important things.

Salem, Oregon Jan 22, 2026 (Issuewire.com)  - Getting Back: A Heartfelt Film of Growth, Love, and Finding Our Way Back to What Matters Most

From a passionate, local, and talented team, Getting Back is an indie film filled with heart, soul, and a message that resonates. Filmed against the stunning natural backdrop of Oregon, this family film represents a lifelong dream realized—a chance for filmmaker Haven Garber to share a deep love for storytelling and filmmaking alongside a meaningful collaboration with their son.

About the Filmmaker

Haven Garber, who spent their early years dreaming of a career in film directing, began their creative journey by launching a videography business focused on short films and wedding videography. Haven also gained experience working for an educational video company in Arizona before temporarily stepping away from filmmaking to pursue a different career path. The spark reignited when Haven's son, River, expressed a keen interest in acting, inspiring Haven to return to the world of film and storytelling.

The idea for Getting Back was born during Christmas Break 2024. The script came to life effortlessly, pouring from Haven’s heart to the page. Fueled by a desire to share an impactful story, Haven crafted a narrative with an important and timely message.

About River

River, a precocious and early talker, has been a natural in front of the camera from a young age. Even before learning to read, River demonstrated an exceptional ability to memorize lines and bring characters to life. He began working with an acting coach at just five years old, securing small acting roles and completing his first vertical film in 2024. His magnetic on-screen presence plays a central role in Getting Back.

About the Movie

Inspired by observing River’s imaginative play, Haven sought to capture the magic and emotion of these moments. This inspiration evolved into the story of Getting Back, following Elliott, a young boy lost in the woods who, with the help of his loyal dog and his vivid imagination, navigates trauma and fear.

At its core, Getting Back is a story of loss, grief, compassion, and resilience. It’s about the healing power of imagination and the enduring bonds between loved ones.

Why This Film Matters

In the United States, a child goes missing every 40 seconds. Whether a child is lost for minutes in a store or becomes separated at a theme park, these terrifying moments leave lasting impacts. In support of raising awareness for missing and exploited children, Getting Back pledges to donate 10% of proceeds after distribution to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), reaffirming that every child deserves a safe and secure childhood.

The production team is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to bring Getting Back to audiences everywhere. Interviews and further insights into the making of this film are available upon request.
