Venezia, Veneto Oct 4, 2024 (Issuewire.com) -
The glittering curtain of the Venice Art Week 2024 recently closed in Italy but the lights remained on the scene of some international artists such as Gaby Wagner and Dylan Katz, who arrived from Tampere in Laguna to present 61.5°N, a solo exhibition with works entirely created together with his wife Greta Katz.
Inspired by the ice of Finland, this refined exhibition of glass sculptures is a delicate story that speaks of the unique love story between Man and Nature.
The complex but at the same time graceful language chosen by Katz for his glass creations earned the artist the Special Jury Prize as part of the Venice Foundation Award, established in 2021 with the aim to pay homage to the mastery and creativity of those who work glass from a perspective that is not only artistic but also based on profound and conscious respect for nature.
Katz leaves the world a sort of "love letter written in glass": an invitation to honor and preserve the beauty of our planet.
There are two main series of works: the iconic Uncanny Ice collection and the new Northern Windows.
Also included in the busy program of events of this year's Venice Glass Week was the Holly Snapp Gallery - among the prestigious Venetian addresses for the figurative arts - which presented the new collection "Glass Meets Bronze" by the designer Gaby Wagner.
An extraordinary series of vintage glass objects revisited and reinterpreted by Wagner with extreme elegance appeared in Venice, all in dialogue with bronze sculptures on the theme of the sea.
The designer combines bronze with historic glass in her works, giving life to unique and timeless charm pieces.
German by birth and French by adoption, Gaby Wagner first lived in Paris and then in Venice collaborating with the master glassmaker Diego Dei Rossi of the Aureliano Toso glassworks in Murano.
This experience, combined with her passion for collecting, has led her over the years to continuous experimentation up to the use of pieces of historic glass, reinterpreted and combined with metal creating artworks full of poetry and innovation.
