District of Columbia, United States Nov 17, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - The Foundation for Special Surgery will hold its 2nd Sankofa Dinner Gala, a unique and transformative evening in support of complex surgical care and training in Africa. The highly anticipated gathering will be held on November 21, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 11:30 pm at the historic Mayflower Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington DC.
Hosted this year by Fox 5 News anchor Shawn Yancy, the annual event aims to raise awareness and support to build a specialty surgical hospital in Ghana. Building on the success of the 1st gala, Sankofa Dinner Gala’s organizers aim to ensure that children and families in Africa, whether rich or poor, can receive specialized surgeries they do not have access to. The initiative will also provide young men and women, surgical training and equip them to deliver world-class surgical care to their fellow Africans.
“From remote villages in Asia to small and large cities in South America and Africa, everyone, everywhere deserves a chance for a life saving and life-changing surgery when they need one,” says Ghanaian-born American physician Dr. Kofi Boahene, acclaimed facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Founder of the Foundation for Special Surgery.
The foundation has commitments from surgeons throughout the world, who work in outstanding institutions and will volunteer their time to help train and assist local surgeons at this hospital.
Proceeds from the gala will be used to build the specialty surgical hospital in Ghana.
Guests can look forward to cocktails, dinner, live entertainment and much more. liormediapr@gmail.com
