Former Indian bureaucrat Aruna Sundararajan conferred Lifetime Achievement Award by BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry

The former IT & Telecom Secretary of India received the award for her meritorious contributions towards the Digital India program, formulation of National Digital Communication Policy (NDCP) and laying the groundwork for 5G technology in the country.

New Delhi, Delhi Mar 16, 2023 (Issuewire.com)  - Aruna Sundararajan IAS (Retd.), former Secretary (Telecom), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) for her stellar contribution to the Digital India initiatives and for laying the groundwork for the 5G technology in the country.

Sundararajan, a 1982 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, had led several citizen-centric innovative and transformative projects while helming multiple government departments during her career spanning over three decades.

The Lifetime Achievement felicitation by BRICS CCI was in recognition of her role in creating the highly-acclaimed National Digital Communication Policy (NDCP) 2018 and formulating India’s 5G policy, the group said in a statement.

During her illustrious career, Sundararajan has launched several initiatives including NDCP 2018, India’s 5G policy, a 5G High-Level Forum, and the Akshaya project of the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Sundararajan, who had served as Secretary in the Steel, IT, and Communications Ministries, had also worked as the country head of the Global e-Schools Initiative of the United Nations. She has served as Chairperson of the Digital Communications Commission (DCC).

As the founding IT Secretary of Kerala, she conceptualised the Akshaya project, an ambitious e-literacy initiative that paved the way for Kerala to become India's first e-literate state.

She has now joined the Broadband India Forum (BIF) as Chairperson to guide the forum in its mission to improve affordable broadband proliferation and usage access in India.

Recognised by the United Nations, BRICS CCI is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a platform for active trade and commerce between the BRICS and other nations. It has a BRICS Women Entrepreneurship Vertical, a dedicated wing that aims to provide investment opportunities to women entrepreneurs worldwide.
