Fair Lawn, New Jersey Jan 9, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Area residents are invited to attend the official kickoff of the Fair Lawn and Glen Rock Relay For Life, which benefits the American Cancer Society (ACS) on Tuesday, February 4 at the Fair Lawn Community Center, 10-10 20th Street in Fair Lawn, N.J. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The featured speaker will be Dr. Andre Goy, a noted oncologist, and Lymphoma Division chief and chair and executive director of the John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack. Goy will discuss the Center’s work and current cancer research insights.
The free event, which coincides with World Cancer Day, will include a complimentary international food tasting provided by the Pythian Sisters of Fair Lawn; information about Relay and opportunities to get involved as a volunteer, a team or sponsor; and fresh baked goods for sale by Glen Rock High School students.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society and the world’s largest fundraising event dedicated to fighting cancer. The community-wide event raises awareness and money to support ACS research and patient programs. This year’s Fair Lawn and Glen Rock Relay will be held overnight on May 30-31, 2020 at Dobrow Athletic Complex on Harristown Road in Fair Lawn, on the Glen Rock border.
During Relay, team members take turns walking around a track continuously to signify that cancer never sleeps; teams also set up themed campsites and participants enjoy entertainment, games, and activities throughout the 12-hour event.
