Family Medicine should be recognized as a Specialization by the Government

- AAPI Delegation Team Appeal to Union Health Minister JP Nadda & NITI Ayog Officials - Dr Sathish Kathula, President, AAPI

Hyderabad, Telangana Oct 21, 2024 (Issuewire.com)  - The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has made a formal request to the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J.P. Nadda, and officials of NITI Aayog to officially recognize Family Medicine as a distinct medical specialty in India. The delegation emphasized the importance of providing comprehensive medical services at the community level to prevent diseases and address health issues effectively, according to API President Dr. Satish Kattula.

Dr. Kattula mentioned that, during the three-day 18th Global Health Summit held at AIIMS, Delhi, the delegation highlighted several key points presented by experts. On Monday, the delegation met with government officials to discuss the pressing need for immediate government action in promoting preventive medicine, given the alarming rise in cases of cancer and heart attacks across India. The team urged the central government to prioritize health awareness and preventive measures among the public.

Additionally, the delegation requested measures to prevent attacks on doctors in India and called for the provision of cancer screening, treatment, and palliative care to be made more accessible to the public.

The meeting with the Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and NITI Aayog officials included key representatives from API: President Dr. Satish Kattula, President-Elect Dr. Amit Chakravarthy, BOT Chair Dr. Sunil Khaja, Regional Director Dr. Vasu Singh, and Global Medical Education Chair Dr. Lokesh, among others.

Dr. Kattula also shared that the Global Association of Indian Medical Students, AIIMS, and AAPI jointly conducted workshops during the summit. These workshops provided students with practical skills and exposure to advanced techniques in medical practice. Furthermore, for the first time, three individuals were honoured with the API Fellowship Awards at the Global Health Summit.
