Exploring the Causes and Consequences of Incarceration in the United States

Davis, California Apr 15, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - "The overcrowded prisons are miserable for the prison survival, as I have been through it for 12 long years too!" said Christopher Zoukis, the managing director of Zoukis Consultancy Company.

The frequency of incarceration in the United States has more than quadrupled over the last 40 years, after years of stability from the mid-1960s to the 1970s. And with 2.2 million individuals in prison, the United States has the world's highest prison population.

In American prisons, under a quarter of the world's inmates are imprisoned. With about 1 out of every 100 persons in incarceration, the United States' imprisonment rate is 5 to 10 times greater than in Western Europe and other nations.

According to Christopher Zoukis," the inmate community in the United States is predominantly made up of the disadvantaged individuals of society: mainly males under the age of 40, predominantly minorities, and poorly educated." He further explains, "Alcohol and drug addictions, mental health problems, and physical illnesses, as well as a lack of work experience or skills, are all common problems among inmates from the federal prison."

The increase in imprisonment in the United States during the last 40 years has sparked various criticisms and an increasing body of scientific evidence regarding what caused the rise and its effects for those who are incarcerated, their families and neighborhoods, and for American society.

Zoukis Consultancy Company focuses on the research that has been conducted for the drastic rise of incarceration rates and their consequences. This study argues that the United States has passed the stage that the number of individuals in jail can be explained by socioeconomic gains and has now arrived at a point where these large incarceration rates are a source of inequality and social damage in and of themselves.

The federal prison system is as such; the majority of federal prisoners are held in low or medium federal jails (36.5 percent and 31.6 percent, respectively). Federal prisoners are held in minimum-security jails, called Federal Prison Camps, and high-security federal prisons of 12.5 percent of the cases.

To reduce the country's dependence on imprisonment and bring out a better life in prison despite all the stumbling blocks. The federal prison consulting department at Zoukis Consultancy Company suggests reforms in sentencing policies, prison policies, and public policy.

Zoukis, said, "the study further addresses crucial analysis issues that must be discussed to have a more solid policy base." The research examines the facts and their ramifications for public policy to better educate a large and reflective public debate and policy reconsiderations.
