Ex-serviceman's land registration pending 25 years in Karnataka: Petition goes viral, generates nearly 14,290 signatures

Krishnamurthy, an ex-serviceman had acquired half-acre land in North Bengaluru’s Vaderahalli village in 1995. Despite a 2017 High Court order to review the matter, the file continues to be pending with the office of Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner

Bengaluru, Karnataka Mar 1, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - Krishnamurthy, an ex-serviceman war veteran, had acquired the land from a private individual in North Bengaluru’s Vaderahalli village in 1995. After getting the sale deed registered at the Sub-Registrar’s office, he was unsuccessful in getting the land title recorded in his name. He ran from pillar to post spending his life’s savings on touts and agents who promised to get the documents registered.

In 2017, his son Mohan K moved to the Karnataka High Court which directed the office of the Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner (DC) to review and adjudicate the matter.

“It is also made clear that if any enquiry is required to be initiated in the matter, the authorities concerned are directed to initiate the same within four weeks from today and the same shall be concluded within six months,” the November 2017 order stated.

Mohan says: “In the past one year, review of revenue records and Karnataka’s Revenue Court Case Monitoring System (RCCMS) show that a few similar cases in Vaderahalli have been adjudicated and khata registered by officials.” Nevertheless, this matter remains pending with the DC office.

Mohan’s social media campaign and a petition drive on change.org has gone viral and generated nearly 14,290 signatures, prompting the Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner, Sri J Manjunath IAS to tweet back

“Sir, I was unaware of this issue. Will find out where the same is kept pending and would definitely address the same on the next working day. We are committed to providing a responsive administration. Thanks & regards,”

It has been three weeks since that Twitter response from Bengaluru DC, prompting Mohan to continue with the viral social media campaign
