Washington, D.C, District of Columbia Nov 27, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - The movie ‘Her’ projected a possibility of the near future of lonely men and Ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt has warned about Perfect ‘AI Girlfriends’ after some recent incidents. He emphasized the fact that the artificial intelligence-based personality of chatbots can increase loneliness and depression among lonely young men. Schmidt was the CEO of Google since 2001 and he stepped down in 2011. He discussed the dangers of young men interacting with AI girlfriends who seem to be perfect in every way. He added, “That kind of obsession is possible, especially for people who are not fully formed,” and shared some concerning facts at the podcast “The Prof G Show” with NYU Stern School of Business professor Scott Galloway.
Schmidt said, “Parents are going to have to be more involved for all the obvious reasons, but at the end of the day, parents can only control what their sons and daughters are doing within reason.” Young men are emotionally vulnerable and the AI Chatbots can be potentially dangerous to users of all ages. He also said, “In many cases, the path to success for young men has been, shall we say, made more difficult because they’re not as educated as the women are now.” According to a survey in 2019, women in America have surpassed men when it comes to college education.
Schmidt also added that men are more biased to “the online world for enjoyment and sustenance,” and continued, “and because of the social media algorithms they find like-minded people who ultimately radicalize them, either in a horrific way, like terrorism, or in the kind of way you’re describing — they’re just maladjusted.” A 14-year-old boy committed suicide back in February when a character on Character.ai asked him to ‘come home’. It is evident that teenagers and young men are not ready to handle the complexity of AI bots.
