New York City, New York Aug 24, 2018 (Issuewire.com)  - Asia Initiatives (AI), a global nonprofit organization that leverages social capital to promote sustainable development, will host its 17th Annual Gala at Tribeca 360° this October 18th at 6:00 PM. During the event, Eighth United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will present the second annual Award for Women’s Empowerment to Professor Chelsea Clinton of the Clinton Foundation, for her work as a leader in women’s empowerment.

The award was instituted in Secretary-General Ban’s name in recognition of his invaluable contributions to women’s issues, including his role in the creation of the UN Women department, the establishment of the first High-Level Panel on Women’s Economic Empowerment, the reduction of the gender wage gap within the UN and the increase in the number of women in senior management at the UN by over forty percent during his time in office.

“It is such an honor for me to be able to properly recognize these amazing women. During my tenure as Secretary-General, I always worked to make women’s empowerment a top priority and I can see that Asia Initiatives is carrying on that legacy,” Mr. Ban said.

As Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation, Chelsea Clinton works to create greater opportunities for people to build better futures for themselves, their families and their communities. Clinton is a tireless advocate for the empowerment of girls and women. As the author of She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World and the companion She Persisted Around the World, Clinton promotes the stories of empowered women for children, ensuring that young girls and boys have positive female role models. Additionally, she is focused on expanding access to early childhood education, improving the health and well-being of Americans across the country and providing the next generation of young leaders with the resources they need to turn their ideas into action.

“At the Gala, we will not only honor Mr. Ban and Professor Clinton, we will also honor the hope and tenacity of thousands of women who participate in our projects,” Geeta Mehta, AI President and co-founder, said.
