Eden Park Illumination obtains EPA registration

Champaign, Illinois May 28, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - Eden Park Illumination has obtained company and establishment registrations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the manufacture of its patented Far-Ultraviolet-C (Far UV-C) lamp assemblies.

After a thorough review of regulatory requirements from the EPA, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and other agencies, Eden Park determined that its products fit the criteria for registration as pesticide devices under federal law.  The devices have been specifically engineered for safe and effective use in reducing bacterial and viral populations in the air and on surfaces in commercial spaces including offices, restaurants, and other public venues.  It’s important to know that 222nm UV light is not appropriate for the direct treatment of people or for ingestion. The products are intended to be used as an essential disinfection element of maintenance strategies to promote healthier and safer public and work environments.

“Our patented, flat-panel technologies have been shown to inactivate up to 90% of potentially harmful bacteria and viruses in the air and on surface areas,” said John Yerger, Eden Park CEO.  “As importantly, the science shows that our lamps – operating in the 222nm spectrum – can be effective in that role while remaining safe for people occupying the space. As a leader in the market for commercialization of Far UV-C solutions, we are proud to say we are taking a responsible approach to understand and fully meeting all of our compliance obligations.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a powerful driver of research and development into the use of novel technologies to create and maintain environments that help to reduce the spread of highly transmissible diseases. “COVID-19 got everyone’s attention,” said Dr. Sung-Jin Park, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Eden Park.  “But the solutions have to address future challenges, from the annual flu to new threats of respiratory illness.  We expect our Far UV-C technologies to find broad adoption among the strategies to meet these challenges and are proud to be a leader in such a valuable area of emerging technology.”

“For Eden Park, being a technology leader necessitates responsible stewardship of that technology,” concluded Yerger. “Compliance with regulatory requirements is a given for effective stewardship, and our continued leadership of and contribution to industry initiatives on the efficacious and safe use of the technology is also vital for us. We are committed to set and meet the high standards expected of strong technology leaders.”
