Dr. Michael Oladiran: The General Practitioner Passionate About Skin Cancer and Geriatrics.

Melbourne, Australia Apr 5, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - Dr. Michael Oladiran is a general practitioner based in Melbourne, Australia. Right from when he got his diploma in skin cancer medicine and dermoscopy from the Skin Cancer College, Australasia, in 2017, he had nursed a special interest in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has been involved in lots of work relating to skin cancer, especially benign and malignant skin lesions.
In 2006, Dr. Oladiran obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS) from the University of Ibadan. As someone who didn’t just want to be a regular doctor, he set out for more experience and knowledge. He then moved to Trinidad and Tobago to kick-start his career.
He began his professional life and career as a general practitioner in the Caribbeans after completing his Bachelor's Degree in Nigeria. As a medical intern and house officer at Sangre Grande Hospital in Trinidad and Tobago, he went through different rotations including gynecology, general surgery, obstetrics, and medical oncology. Although he was born in Nigeria, he chose to practice his medical profession in Australia.
He went further to get his Master's in Public Health from Western Kentucky University, USA, in 2012. After obtaining his Master's, he went again to Sangre Grande Hospital in Trinidad and Tobago. As a senior officer, he was also involved in various research and studies. Notable among the research that Dr. Michael was involved in are current trends in the emergence of HIV in Trinidad and Tobago and Colorectal Cancer- Staging and Management Audit 2011. During this period, he also served as an attending general practitioner after hours at the Eastern Regional Health Authority. For four years, he worked at Trinidad and Tobago and was a very successful young doctor.
When he moved to Australia, he worked in general practice. Dr. Michael became a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners in Australia in 2016.

Having worked in the aged care sector for about 4 years, he had first-hand experience of what it's like to care for the elderly. This experience of his made him delve deeper into this aspect. He realized how he could make them happier at that stage of life. As people grow older, several changes occur to them and he saw how crucial it was to care for them and help them feel better. He then decided to join Aged Care GP in Melbourne, Australia in 2017. As a team of qualified general practitioners who are dedicated to making life better for the elderly, Aged Care GP is doing well in the industry. He also partners with different residential facilities across Melbourne. Aside from Aged Care GP, some of his affiliations include IPC Health(Deer Park) and IPC Health Wyndham Vale where he works part-time.

“We see many patients with social isolation and social issues, and medically we cannot set up for that…it's always good to have that social linkage for them so that their social needs are met, and at the same time we meet their clinical needs as well”, he opined while talking about the ‘social prescribing' program which was funded by the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network. The main purpose of this network is to socially cater to people, especially older people.
Recently, a study from Swinburne University and the Australian Psychological Society revealed that depression is 15% more likely among people that are experiencing loneliness. It also showed that social anxiety is 13% more likely among people who are lonely. Studies like these show the reality of older people who no longer have any social life. Whenever he is at work in Deer Park, Dr. Michael sees the ripple effects of loneliness in his older patients. He notices how they slowly shut down socially and keep to themselves. He sees the impact of isolation and loneliness on older people who are losing touch with their family and old friends. As a general practitioner, Dr. Michael can only be sure of giving these people clinical care adequately. Knowing that social care is also very much needed, he recommends the social prescribing program to his older patients for those social needs to be met.
The effects of the program have been outstanding positively. After receiving clinical care, the patients now have a way of making their social lives better. Those elderly patients who were usually bitter while receiving clinical care have become warmer and happier after being a part of the program. These effects make Dr. Michael and his team members happy as they witness the transformation experienced by these older patients.

Having worked in Australia for a good number of years, Dr. Michael is well respected by his colleagues and patients. As a knowledgeable and caring doctor, he has the trust and confidence of his clients. There are hundreds of reviews of people who like the way he works and cares for his patients. Several clients(patients) have been referred to him from far and wide. His good reputation precedes him in his field.
The fact that he is passionate about aged care and skin cancer may make some people think that those are his only specialties or areas of interest. However, Dr. Michael isn't all about geriatrics and skin cancer, he has other areas in which he nurses a special interest. He is peculiarly interested in mental conditions, benign and malignant skin lesions, and chronic diseases. He currently gets involved in research topics, especially those relating to skin cancer.
He has worked in major cities in regional Australia and urban Australia over the years. Currently, he is based in Melbourne where he majorly works with the elderly at Aged Care GP and IPC health
As an African man who was born in Nigeria, his native language is Yoruba. Despite this fact, however, he is very fluent in the English language. Also, having traveled to different parts of the world, he has a bit of knowledge of a few other languages.
For him, there have been no regrets whatsoever about his decision to move to Australia and become a general practitioner. He feels fulfilled about caring for people with chronic diseases and skin cancer or mental health conditions.

According to Dr. Michael, meeting people from diverse backgrounds, understanding their needs, and helping them are one of the important things that make him happy. Also, being able to ease the (health) burden of aged people is a very satisfying feeling. He loves watching sports, especially soccer. He also enjoys listening to inspirational music and world news. He prioritizes being able to spend time with his lovely family- including his two young kids and touring his beautiful neighborhood, Melbourne.
