Dr. Don Steele Hosts Virtual Book Signing for ‘No Soldier Left Behind’ at BIBF 2026

Explora Books held a virtual signing with Dr. Don Steele, author of No Soldier Left Behind, during the 32nd Beijing International Book Fair (June 17–21, 2026) at the China National Convention Center.

Vancouver, British Columbia Aug 5, 2026 (Issuewire.com)  - The event took place at Explora Books’ exhibition booth, where the biography was featured as part of the company’s international showcase of independent authors. Chronicling the life of Brigadier General John G. Kulhavi—a helicopter pilot who flew over 300 combat missions—the biography traces a military career marked by combat service, leadership, and a longstanding commitment to ensuring that no soldier was left behind.

BIBF 2026 marked the fair’s 40th anniversary and drew over 1,700 exhibitors from 82 countries and regions. Within Explora Books’ showcase, military memoirs and biographies formed a notable part of the collection presented to international publishing audiences. No Soldier Left Behind appeared alongside other military-themed works, including Mary Lou Darst’s War Ready: In My Father’s Shadow and Charles Cone’s A Burning Desire to Fly. Together, these books highlighted accounts of military service, leadership, and personal resilience within a fair dedicated to global publishing exchange.

No Soldier Left Behind traces Kulhavi’s journey from his Polish-Catholic upbringing in Hamtramck, Michigan, to an ROTC commission at Central Michigan University and to over 300 combat missions as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, many of which involved transporting wounded and critically injured soldiers from the battlefield. His military decorations include two Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, a Legion of Merit, twenty-two Air Medals, and Master Aviator Wings, culminating in his promotion to brigadier general.

The biography continues beyond Kulhavi’s military career, following his transition into the financial services industry, where he helped establish the brokerage industry’s first financial advisory team at Merrill Lynch, with the support of then-chairman Donald Regan. He was later recognized as one of Barron’s Top 100 Financial Advisors for over two decades. The book also documents his longstanding philanthropic support for Central Michigan University, including contributions to neuroscience research, ROTC programs, and athletics, resulting in multiple campus facilities bearing his name.

Steele brings a uniquely personal perspective to the biography. He and Kulhavi were college roommates and fraternity brothers at Central Michigan University, and the book grew out of decades of conversations between two longtime friends, one of whom had quietly lived an extraordinary life. That perspective provides the narrative with a recurring theme, reflected in Kulhavi’s own words: “My word is my life, and my life is my word.”

No Soldier Left Behind is available on Amazon and other major digital bookstores.
