"What Was I Thinking?" is a candid retelling of Flemming's life, spanning from the 1940s to the 1980s. Her journey saw her evolve from a booking agent for big-name bands to running a gallery, a teen center, and a Mexican culture center, to owning two restaurants and becoming a celebrated costume and mascot designer. With a career that includes raising six children, marrying eight husbands, writing a cookbook, and traveling the world, Flemming's memoir is as diverse and dynamic as the woman herself.
"I've always believed in living life without hiding anything," says Flemming. "As the wise Meher Baba once said, 'In order to appreciate truth, approach it through itself, without any game of hide and seek.' This book holds my truth, and I hope readers enjoy it as much as I enjoyed living it."
Flemming's memoir is not just a book but an experience—a window into a world where hippies, rock 'n roll, and fast cars were the norm, and creativity knew no bounds. Her storytelling brings to life the era's spirit, making "What Was I Thinking?" a must-read for anyone interested in the cultural history of Northern California or those simply looking for an inspiring tale of a life well-lived.
