Agartala, Tripura Apr 2, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - Barma Productions celebrates Tripura’s legendary filmmaker and only film scholar Aloy Deb Barma’s 2021 venture ‘Dhushor Borno’. ‘Dhushor Borno’ is a groundbreaking short film that gives the rapidly sexually-awakened youth a harsh reality check of what fatalities of ignorance look like. Dhushor Borno is a relevant and timely film exploring the celebration of growing popular culture and the complexities of the vulnerabilities that come with life’s indiscriminate choices.

Aloy Deb Barma, the director of the film, is the only film scholar who is considered to be the first from the state to have studied films as an academic discipline, hailing from one of the indigenous communities of Tripura is also a visionary who has attempted at rejuvenating the filmmaking culture in Tripura and has brought about a new wave in Tripuri cinema by introducing neorealistic aesthetics, influencing generations of young students and aspirant filmmakers. He has also apprenticed under great filmmakers and film scholars namely Padma Shri Tarun Majumdar, Dr. Madhuja Mukherjee, Dr. Moinak Biswas, Madhu Apsara, and so on. Dhushor Borno showcases an intriguing story of a young couple and a distant friend reaping the bitter consequences of the casual ignorance of young blood and how sometimes, for people’s selfish reasons, innocent lives are at stake, something as lethal as AIDS. Through the film, the director tries to reach out to the emerging youth and communicate the life-like sadistic experiences that emerge from the graves of forgotten misdeeds and mistakes and how they take a toll on human relationships, often altering them forever.

Commenting on his first experience as an independent filmmaker, Aloy Deb Barma, the director of Dhushor Borno states, “It is an honor to debut the film as an opportunity to spread the idea to ultimately a wider audience comprising especially the youth on the alarmingly increasing rate of HIV/AIDS cases in Tripura.” This is in cognizance of the revolutionary strides that Aloy Deb Barma and his students are striving to establish in culturally-rich Tripura. He adds, “Films in Tripura need to be more content-driven and project women in the realist light instead of trading their existence with mere superficiality, rather a visual feast.

Dhushor Borno, the eight-minute short, starring a very fresh set of faces Srabanika Banik, Pohar Jamatia, and Samrat Debbarma, is an exceptional masterpiece in the history of Tripuri filmmaking practices that reflects the pathos of the young generations that are often the fallouts of unwitting decisions. Barma Productions is highly hopeful of the film’s impact on Tripuri Cinema in leading the artists to a new path where art for art is applauded and the dominant ideology of selling art for money is denounced.
