Denmark's .dk Domain Registry Moves All Domains to Registrar Model by 2028

Punktum dk phases out direct registrant administration; all .dk domains must be linked to an authorized registrar by June 30, 2028 — a change affecting hundreds of thousands of Danish domain holders.

Kobenhavns Kommune, Denmark (Issuewire.com)  - COPENHAGEN, Denmark, February 20, 2026 — Punktum dk (formerly DK Hostmaster), the registry behind Denmark's .dk country-code top-level domain, has announced the end of direct registrant administration. Under the new model, every .dk domain must be managed through an authorized registrar — a shift that aligns .dk with how most other TLDs already operate worldwide.

The transition follows two key deadlines. From July 1, 2026, all newly registered .dk domains will require a registrar from the start. By June 30, 2028, every existing .dk domain must also be linked to a registrar. Domain holders who currently manage their .dk domains directly through Punktum dk need to select a registrar before the final deadline.

For registrants, the change is administrative rather than technical. Domain ownership, DNS settings, and prepaid registration periods remain unaffected during the transfer. The goal is to simplify the domain management experience by consolidating billing, support, and renewals under a single provider instead of splitting responsibilities between the registry and individual domain holders.

Netsite, a Danish domain registrar and web hosting provider operating since 1998, has supported the registrar model for .dk domains for several years already. The company registers all new .dk domains through its own registrar agreement with Punktum dk and offers .dk domains at 90 DKK per year with no price increase at renewal.

"This transition removes a longstanding source of confusion for .dk domain holders," said Netsite. "Having domains split between a registry and a separate hosting provider led to billing issues, outdated contact records, and occasional unintended domain suspensions. The registrar model gives domain holders one point of contact for everything."

Netsite provides domain registration for over 400 TLD extensions from its own servers in Danish datacenters, powered by 100% green energy with 24/7 hourly matching via Vattenfall. The company offers Danish-language phone support on all service tiers.

Domain holders affected by the transition can request a transfer authorization code from Punktum dk's self-service portal at selvbetjening.punktum.dk and initiate the transfer to their preferred registrar.
