District of Columbia, United States Apr 24, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Armenian-American rapper Marc 2Ray will mark the 105th anniversary of the sadly torturous Armenian Genocide with a bonus-added re-release of his most popular single of his career-to-date, “1915.” 2Ray, the grandson of an Armenian Genocide survivor, first released “1915” five years ago to commemorate a century passing since the tragic event. Included in 2020’s re-release is a live version of the song (on all platforms) from his 2017 performance in Times Square, plus an acoustic version of the song (on all platforms) accompanied by a new video that recaps “1915” performances of note, including at the Armenian Genocide Commemorations outside The White House (2016, 2018) and at The March For Justice in LA (2018).
2020 has found the song, produced by Godfather and mixed by Grammy-nominated engineer Calin Enache, included on his well-regarded debut album Fresh Air. This is the latest in a series of groundbreaking achievements surrounding the hit. These accomplishments include the track being remixed as “Wake Up,” a collaboration with Armenian composer Eduard Hambartsoumian, complete with symphony orchestra style arrangement, and being used in dozens of high school and college curricula worldwide to help educate others about the Armenian Genocide.
In regards to the single’s re-release, Marc says, “I want to continue to shed light on this important page of history. It’s sad that Turkey has been denying their crime for 105 years (as well as editing the internet and teaching a false curriculum to its citizens). Ultimately, this single corrects that and proves that love, awareness, and understanding can rule the world.”
***As a bonus, check out Marc 2Ray's NPR Tiny Desk Contest submission of "Just Kids," performed for the competition by Marc, accompanied by Rafael The Drummer, Allison Balanc, DJ Q, and MusicRayy.
