That philosophy continues to guide Champ Tours as the company opens registration for its 2027 Foundations of Freedom Tour, an immersive travel experience that will take Northern California eighth-grade students to Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., from March 19–26, 2027.
For more than two decades, Champ has helped organize educational travel experiences built around one simple idea: history becomes more meaningful when students can experience it firsthand.

The weeklong itinerary takes participants to many of America's most significant historical landmarks. Students walk Boston's Freedom Trail, visit Independence Hall in Philadelphia, experience Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty in New York City, and explore the monuments, museums, and memorials that define the nation's capital.
Known as the Foundations of Freedom Tour, the experience is designed to connect students with the people, places, and events that shaped the United States while encouraging curiosity, independence, and a deeper appreciation for history and culture.
"I've always believed that travel creates learning opportunities you simply can't recreate anywhere else," Champ said. "When students stand in Independence Hall or visit the National Mall, those places stop being names in a textbook. They become real."
While the destinations are historic, Champ says the greatest impact often comes from the personal growth students experience throughout the journey.
Traveling with their peers encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, develop confidence, and build lasting friendships as they navigate new cities and experience different cultures.
"I've watched students come home with a greater appreciation for history, but I've also watched them return with more confidence in themselves," Champ said. "Those are lessons that stay with them long after the trip is over."
The tour is open to all area eighth-grade students, regardless of the school they attend, creating opportunities for students from across the region to travel and learn together.
Families interested in the 2027 Foundations of Freedom Tour are invited to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Granite Oaks Middle School gymnasium in Rocklin. The meeting will provide an overview of the itinerary, answer questions from parents and students, and explain the registration process.
