CTF Stresses Importance of Preserving Lesser-Known Languages in J&K

Doda, Jammu and Kashmir Apr 12, 2023 (Issuewire.com)  - The Chenab Times Foundation, a charitable trust dedicated to promoting art, and culture, and addressing public grievances, has emphasized the importance of preserving native lesser-known languages like Sarazi and Bhaderwahi in the Chenab Valley region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Anzer Ayoob, President of the Chenab Times Foundation, stated, "Preserving native languages is crucial for maintaining the cultural and linguistic diversity of the community. Losing a language means losing a part of our cultural heritage and identity. Preserving lesser-known languages like Sarazi and Bhaderwahi also has cognitive and educational benefits. Bilingualism can lead to better cognitive functioning and enhanced creativity, among other benefits."

Anzer explained that studies have shown that speaking more than one language has cognitive and educational benefits. Bilingualism can improve cognitive abilities such as problem-solving, creativity, and multi-tasking. Moreover, being bilingual can also enhance the brain's ability to switch between tasks, which can lead to increased efficiency in learning and memory retention.

In addition to the cognitive benefits, Anzer stated that bilingualism also has educational advantages. Students who speak more than one language often perform better academically than their monolingual peers. They have better language skills, and being bilingual can also enhance their understanding of different cultures and ways of thinking.

Anzer stressed that preserving native languages fosters a sense of community and social connection among the speakers of those languages. Speaking a common language is an essential aspect of community building and social connection, and preserving languages like Sarazi and Bhaderwahi can strengthen social bonds and foster a sense of belonging among its speakers.

The Foundation's efforts towards preserving and promoting lesser-known languages like Sarazi and Bhaderwahi are praiseworthy. With fewer people speaking these languages and a lack of institutional support, the languages are at risk of disappearing. Anzer stated that the Foundation is actively working towards its preservation and promotion by creating awareness and encouraging the use of these languages among the youth.

Anzer shared that the Chenab Times Foundation's initiatives towards preserving and promoting lesser-known native languages like Sarazi and Bhaderwahi are crucial for the cultural, educational, and social well-being of the community. Anzer explained that the Foundation is also working on creating resources like books and videos in these languages to preserve them for future generations. These efforts are commendable, and Anzer believes it is crucial to support and encourage them to maintain the cultural and linguistic diversity of the Chenab Valley region.
