Comedian and Former State Senate Candidate Releases California Recall Election Anthem

Guitar Comedian Evan Wecksell unveils a comedy song highlighting many of the reasons Californians might be seeking a change in leadership.

Los Angeles, California Aug 12, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - As millions of disgruntled Californians could not wait until 2022 to elect a new governor, Comedian and former State Senate candidate Evan Wecksell could not delay in releasing a new comedy single to both lampoon California Governor Gavin Newsom and educate voters ahead of the fast-approaching September 14 recall election.

“Recall That Man” is an upbeat comedy anthem, which is hard to pull off, considering the content highlights many of the state’s prevalent shortcomings.

“When you read the headlines and see the inconsistencies from leadership that are negatively affecting all Californians, you can’t help but look at this as comedic low-hanging fruit,” explains Wecksell.

The music video, much like his earlier “The Covid Cure” release, features diverse and eclectic stock footage, but also shines a spotlight on the non-partisan recall volunteers and the time and effort they put in to make the recall possible.

The song debuted last Friday on KABC’s “Friday Night at the French Laundry” show. This program, run by the lead recall proponents, allows Californians to call in and voice their struggles in Newsom’s California.

While Wecksell, a recall volunteer himself, made this song independently, lead proponent Orrin Heatlie was one of the first to hear it.

“It’s catchy,” says Heatlie. “[It] kind of reminds me of 80s style rock with a political bent.”

The bigger question is whether a song can affect an election.

“I don’t want to leave this state,” explains Wecksell, “but so many of my friends have left, are leaving or will leave. This upcoming election is almost like a last stand for many of us.”

While the success of the song remains to be seen, one thing Evan does hope is that the song not only adds levity to an urgent situation but also raises awareness about California’s true state of affairs.

“If this song can act as a comedic voter leaflet,” Wecksell hopes, “then that’s all I can ask for.”

“Recall That Man” is available on all streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Tiktok, iHeartRadio and Youtube Music.
