Atlanta, Georgia Apr 13, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Independent children’s book author Katina M. Davis announces the upcoming release of her new book, Venus and Van Want to Understand, scheduled for early May.
The story follows Venus, a character first introduced in Davis’s earlier work Learning to Love Dark Skinned Me, as she returns alongside her younger brother Van. Together, they begin to navigate the emotional reality of their parents’ separation and the changes unfolding within their family.
Through Venus’s perspective, young readers are gently guided through feelings of confusion, sadness, adjustment, and understanding as they learn that family structures may change while love and connection can still remain. Van’s character adds an additional layer of perspective, reflecting how younger children often process major life transitions differently than older siblings.
Katina Davis uses storytelling as a tool to help children understand complex emotional experiences in an age-appropriate and supportive way. The book focuses on emotional expression, reassurance, and understanding rather than conflict, offering children a safe space to explore feelings that are often difficult to articulate.
“This book was created to help children feel seen and understood during one of the most emotional transitions they may experience,” Davis said. “Divorce can be confusing for children, and I wanted to create a story that helps them process those feelings in a healthy way.”
Venus and Van Want to Understand continues Davis’s commitment to writing purposeful children’s literature centered on emotional awareness, identity, and giving children a voice through storytelling. The book expands on the world introduced in Learning to Love Dark Skinned Me, deepening the emotional journey of Venus while introducing her younger brother Van.
The book is set for release in early May.
