The child’s mother, Erin Addison, confirmed the lab detection of E. coli in her home’s drinking water. Yet, despite the gravity of the situation and now over 45 residents raising concerns about their own water quality, city leadership remains silent.
In the weeks since Erin’s child first fell ill, local officials have refused to issue a boil advisory, denied public accountability, and dismissed multiple independent water test results showing contamination. HML Labs, the facility that processed the water tests, has been under scrutiny for marking test results as “satisfactory” even when E. coli was detected, a practice that appears to contradict federal EPA guidance.
“This isn’t just about one test anymore,” said James Peters, a resident and whistleblower who has been collecting documentation from across the city. “This is about dozens of families being ignored while a child is in the hospital, and the people elected to protect them do nothing.”
Public meetings have yielded no clear answers, with residents reporting questions left unanswered, chlorine logs ignored, and emails to city leaders going without response.
