Cassandra Shepard: Professional Presentations

New Orleans, Louisiana Apr 24, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - Cassandra Shepard is a historian from Louisiana completing her Doctor of Philosophy in African-American History at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. In addition to her doctorate, she holds a Bachelor of Sciences in History at Xavier University and a Master of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago.

She has published her research extensively and gives regular presentations at professional and academic conferences. Her research interests include diaspora, post-colonial theory, the politics of reproduction, decolonization, and disaster theory. Her research focuses particularly on the experiences of the Black community in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Shepard’s research interests also lend themselves to her personal interests. In her free time, Shepard enjoys researching information related to current research and reading extensively. Shepard particularly loves teaching, having served as a Teaching Assistant for numerous Northwestern courses and as a part-time Faculty Member at the Art Institute of Chicago.

In addition to her academic career, Cassandra Shepard also owns a haircare business known as Honey Do Products, based out of Harvey, Louisiana. The business’s mission is to provide natural hair care products free from harsh, damaging chemicals. Shepard hopes her products will help people restore and strengthen their hair, finding confidence through health and beauty. Honey Do sells affordable hair care products, including serum, daily treatments, and foot butter.

Shepard also enjoys travelling, believing that their experiences help people improve their global perspective. She spent a semester abroad in Brazil at Zumbi Dos Palmares University and hopes to spend a summer travelling throughout Africa.
