CSA STAR Attestation builds on existing auditing standards, including the American Institute of Public Accountants (AICPA) Trust Services Criteria (TSC) for Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 examination, with a cloud-specific overlay that incorporates criteria from the Cloud Control Matrix (CCM).

Together, a SOC 2 + CSA STAR attestation gives organizations that successfully complete the audit a Level 2 listing in the CSA STAR registry. Publishing to the STAR registry allows organizations to demonstrate for current and potential customers their security and compliance posture, including the regulations, standards, and frameworks they adhere to, ultimately reducing complexity and helping to alleviate the need to fill out multiple customer questionnaires.
