Caribbean Literary Festival Announces 2019 Date

Los Angeles, California Jan 29, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - The 2nd annual Caribbean Literary Festival will be held in Los Angeles on June 8, 2019, at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall. The festival, also known as CALIFEST, is a one-of-a-kind event in the United States that celebrates the spirit, cultural heritage and literary contributions of the Caribbean community throughout the diaspora. The first annual event in 2018 was well attended and earned rave reviews, and festival organizers are excited to be able to bring this unique event back again for its second year.

CALIFEST is an annual project conceived of in 2017 and sponsored by the Los Angeles-based non-profit organization the Jamaica Cultural Alliance. The one-day festival features an invigorating schedule packed with author presentations, innovative panel discussions and book sales and signings. The festival’s organizers see it as a fun and exciting opportunity to introduce Southern California communities to works of the Caribbean Islands.

While book festivals in Southern California are common, festivals centered around black authors are less popular. CALIFEST serves the important niche of black writers and fosters a community of support and sharing among authors of African descent.

CALIFEST provides a fruitful environment not only for Caribbean writers to connect and share their literary accomplishments and heritage but also to expose their talents and culture to a wider audience. Schools, colleges and universities interested in developing curriculums centered around Caribbean literature; libraries and publishers interested in promoting Caribbean authors and culture; ambassadors and diplomats from the Caribbean and persons interested in developing an extended Caribbean literary community will especially find the festival’s activities and programming compelling.

The one-day program features a wide array of events and activities, including street performances from featured authors, a Caribbean parade, creative workshops, book workshops, a Caribbean exhibition and a kids village that showcases works by children.

The festival also provides sponsorship opportunities for community partners interested in exposing their business to an audience in the upwards of 1 million. Interested partners are encouraged to reach out to the group to secure sponsorship opportunities by April 15th.
