Canadian Film Industry Pros Band Together

Moonchildren Films Formed in BC

Victoria, British Columbia Feb 19, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - Four long-standing professionals in the BC film industry have banded together to bring an important story to the screen. Tlingit artist and Pow Wow dancer Kiri Geen, actor and writer Christopher Logan (Cold Pursuit, Tron Legacy, The X-Files), production manager Ken Shapkin and costume designer Carmen Thompson (Red Snow, Monkey Beach) are bringing a fairy tale to life later this year in Victoria.

The tale 'Kiri and the Dead Girl' was born from the imagination of Christopher Logan and based on the experiences of Kiri Geen. Kiri was adopted and gained reconnection to her Tlingit heritage through exploration of Formline Art, silver carving, beadwork and dancing at over 50 Pow Wows. Her experiences have been folded into an allegorical fairy-tale that follows a six-year-old Kiri as she grieves her Pow Wow dancer mother and summons the strength to come through the shadows and back into her world.

The tale so moved production manager Ken Shapkin, a mainstay of the Victoria film and television industry these past years, that he decided to join forces with the pair to help bring the story to the screen. "It's important that stories of discovery are told", says Ken. "People need to know there are ways to reclaim and reconnect to who they are." Rounding out the production team is costume designer and connector Carmen Thompson, who recently completed the highly-anticipated supernatural mystery film Monkey Beach directed by Loretta Todd, from the Eden Robinson novel.

After crafting a tight story with the help of First Nations script consultant Nyla Carpentier, Moonchildren Films has started down the funding path and is knocking down doors. The wheels are starting to turn and the foursome is making waves, bartering deals and gathering the right people in key positions. If all goes well, Victoria will be seeing this film in production this Fall.
