California officer killed in weekend protests to be recognized with special fundraiser for his family

Dave Patrick Underwood of Federal Protective Services in Oakland will be honored with ‘Hold the Line’ campaign from Shield Republic Charities

Raleigh, North Carolina Jun 2, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - A Federal Protective Services officer shot and killed amid a weekend protest in Oakland, California is the latest first responder to be commemorated with special apparel in his honor from American lifestyle brand Shield Republic.

Officer Dave “Patrick” Underwood, age 53, was shot while on duty guarding the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse at 1301 Clay Street in Oakland the evening of Friday, May 29. During protests outside the building, an assassin inside a white van allegedly shot at Underwood and another FPS officer. Underwood died from the gunshot wounds; the second officer remains in critical condition.

Officer Underwood was a security officer who had been under contract with the Department of Homeland Security for nine years. He was a lifelong resident of Pinole, California.

Shield Republic’s “Hold the Line” campaign in Officer Underwood’s honor will raise funds for his family through the sale of special apparel including t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, ladies’ tank tops, and decals. All net proceeds from the sale will be donated to Officer Underwood’s family.

"Officer Underwood bravely laid down his life during an incredibly challenging weekend for law enforcement professionals everywhere,” said Charlie Romero, spokesperson for Shield Republic. “Our team at Shield Republic recognizes this officer’s sacrifice to fulfill his duty as a federal officer. We hope our Hold the Line fundraiser honors him and comforts his family and his team in this time of loss.”
