After years of delays and setbacks, the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF, the first Bitcoin-linked exchange-traded fund in the United States, debuted on Tuesday, marking a watershed moment for the crypto industry.
The fund, which trades under the symbol BITO, was up about 3% at $41.25 as of 9:33 a.m. in New York. It has been long anticipated by both the crypto community and Wall Street investors, many of whom have argued for years that a Bitcoin-focused exchange-traded fund is long overdue. The ProShares fund is based on futures contracts and was filed in accordance with mutual fund rules that, according to SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, provide "significant investor protections."
