Point Pleasant, New Jersey Jun 11, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - BRB Ceramic Tile, Marble & Stone, supplier of the greater New York and New Jersey area with skilled and trained craftsmen in the ceramic tile, porcelain, marble, and stone industry, announced today the completed installation of a 625,000-piece mosaic tile at New York LaGuardia Airport’s new Terminal B.
BRB was awarded the project in May 2019. After three months of pre-construction and planning, site work started in September with over 9 months of installation. With the exception of ten-working days, the installation moved forward throughout the coronavirus pandemic, with workers sporting proper PPE and completing pre-site access testing.
“Being born and raised in Queens, I couldn’t be more excited to have worked on this project,” said BRB Vice President, Ed Connors. “It was a pleasure working with the artist and watching two coasts come together to complete this project during some of the nation’s toughest times. Im excited for this mural to start a new chapter in New York’s history, and can’t wait for travelers to experience our work for years to come.”
Today, Governor Cuomo hosted a ribbon-cutting for the new Terminal B and celebrating the completion of the project which includes the largest indoor mosaic wall in the world, ready to be enjoyed by millions of travelers passing through TSA security checkpoints.
California-based artist Laura Owens designed the wall which features iconic and recognizable New York themes and symbols. Tiles were hand-made by Fire Clay, a California company, who shipped over 26,000 square feet of tile to BRB’s New Jersey warehouse. All tiles were cut and installed on-site by members of the BAC Local 7 Tile, Marble and Terrazzo Union.
