New York City, New York Dec 17, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - JD Lawrence best known for creating and starring in his Bravo series “Your Husband Is Cheating On Us” creates a new topical animated series entitled JD’s Place. Lawrence says the primary goal of the production will be to help employ unemployed actors and writers during this pandemic. Lawrence says, “a lot of actors and writers I know here in New York, Atlanta, LA and other places are not working and they’re finding it difficult to make ends meet.” Especially creatives in the urban theater community, ie. Broadway. They’re completely out of work. Unfortunately for urban theater, there’s no COVID-19 relief fund on the table to help support the many talented non-Union actors and writers who are also struggling. However, an animated show like Lawrence’s JD’s Place will allow actors and writers to work safely and remotely says Lawrence. He will start pitching to networks like Netflix, Amazon, UMC, Cartoon Network and Comedy Central to name a few. Lawrence said he would also like to start production first quarter. There’s so many creatives in live theater that’s out of work right now and an opportunity like this would not only be a blessing, but literally a life saver.
The production JD’s Place is inspired by actual events and features characters from Lawrence’s 2019 Guinness World Records performance “Skitzophrenia”. JD’s Place is produced by Lawrence’s 32 South Animated Studios. It is New York’s first black owned animated studio. 32 South Animated Studios uses a combination of gaming technology, classic film production, old-fashioned screenwriting and original scoring. Lawrence plans on producing 100 episodes of the production and would like to start first quarter 2021. Lawrence says although the show is a topical adult animated series. It will feel more like regular family sitcoms with funny, traditional-style stories and characters that revolve around marriage, pop culture, work, politics and coming of age. One of the many things that make the series a win for any network is that most episodes of animated shows can take anywhere from six to twelve months to complete. The fact that an episode of JD’s Place can be produced in less than seven days has given creator JD Lawrence a topical freedom that very few productions in this climate have right now.
